Artist’s Statement

When I was a little girl, I performed the purple dance, the yellow dance, the blue dance…and every other color of the rainbow, expressing the emotions I felt I about each color. Color has always been a part of my identity, and I have a need to create and be surrounded by brilliant colors.

I see the world in bold chunks of color, exaggerated shapes, flowing lines, and unique patterns. Rearranging nature into my own surreal wonderland, I use undulating black lines to frame vibrant hues, creating spaces to tell my hidden stories. Color, my passion, powerful and intense, is the magic tool I use to communicate artistically. It allows me to convey emotions onto my canvas and gives my work a sense of humor, joy, and surprise.

Color soothes my whimsical soul.

Eliza Midgett

Growing up, my big brother Jim was my best friend. He taught me to roller skate, how to drive, and took me to my first concert. Jim was a gifted musician and an even better brother. His smile could light up a room.

Alzheimer’s took his bright life far too early.

I miss hearing him jamming on the piano, putting his heart and soul into it. You’ll find black & white stripes, like piano keys, in all my artwork in honor of my brother and his incredible musical talent.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of my art is donated to the Alzheimer’s Association to help battle this horrendous disease. Let’s help End Alzheimer’s.
